Who We Are
Sigma Phi Lambda is a sorority that strives to glorify God by providing a source of fellowship for Christian college women who sincerely seek to know His person, His will, and His ways.
We are a non-denominational organization of sisters where fellowship with our most high God is fostered by growth in unity with one another. Through weekly meetings that include worship, encouragement, fellowship, and accountability, Phi Lamb provides an alternative to Panhellenic sororities. Sigma Phi Lambda is not presently, nor will it ever be Panhellenic.
Our Story
Sigma Phi Lambda, Sisters for the Lord, was prayerfully founded in 1988 at the University of Texas at Austin by a group of women who envisioned a sorority that would provide Christian fellowship on the UT campus.
They drafted the original constitution that defined the purpose, structure, and day-to-day running of the sorority and its requirements for membership.
15 years later, the University of Florida became the “Nu Chapter” of the organization. We have now been a part of the UF campus for 23 years!
What We Believe
-
Sigma Phi Lambda has adopted the Apostles’ Creed as its statement of beliefs:
“I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only son our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate; was crucified, dead, and buried. He went down to the dead. On the third day He rose again. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the holy catholic* church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.”
*The word catholic is used in this context to mean universal
-
Romans 15:5-6 ~ “May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves, as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and one mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
-
Our sole purpose is to glorify God and make His name great.
We do this through weekly Chapter meetings that are based off of Colossians 3:16, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”
All of our events are designed off of this very same purpose.
Donations
Would you like to help us continue making a difference by supporting our Christ-centered sisterhood?
Every donation helps support our mission to grow in faith, encourage one another, serve others with compassion and purpose, and through it all glorify God and make His name great. With your support, we are able to create more meaningful sisterhood events, expand our outreach opportunities, and continue building a community rooted in Christ’s love. Your generosity plays a meaningful role in helping our sisters live out God’s love both on campus and beyond!
